Albert "Bruce" Marshall Burton
Feb. 17, 1923 - Oct. 22, 2015
(Veteran WWII - 5th Anti-Tank Regiment,
Member of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa)
Peacefully he left gently, of natural causes, with family at his side at the Perley-Rideau Veterans' Health Centre. Beloved husband of Christina Drodge-Burton and the late Dorothy Burton (nee LaVergne). Loving father of Marlene Burton (Hinchcliff), Valerie-Anne Burton, and Elaine Panke. Proud grandfather of Tania and Michael Hinchcliff and Shane and Chelsey Panke. Predeceased by sisters Mildred Hunter and Mavis Burton. Step-father to Louise Drodge-Smith of Ottawa and Marion Williams of Halifax. Proud step-grandfather to Bradford and Ashlee Smith, Nancy Louvelle, Brent and Sharilyn Watkins and Andrew and Brian Buckley. "Poppy Bruce" will also be missed by several extended family members. Bruce was a proud veteran - he was a liberator in France where he was wounded on the road to Falais, after which he rejoined his regiment to liberate the Netherlands. He was also a longtime member of the RCL-Westboro Branch 480, and retired from Canada Post with over 30 years of service. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Perley-Rideau Veterans' Health Centre and to Paulette, Elaine, and Mike for their care and support. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Monday, Oct. 26 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 10:00 am. Interment, Capital Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, a donation to the Perley-Rideau Veterans' Health Centre would be appreciated.
