Passed away suddenly on February 9th, 2015 at age 83, of heart failure while recovering from unrelated surgery. One of the early pioneers of the computer industry, he left this earth as he entered it, living each day to the fullest. Alan was a voracious reader, avid genealogist, astute technologist, music aficionado, accomplished writer, insightful analyst of history and current events, nature lover, traveler, storyteller, practical joker, and shameless troublemaker, with an unnatural fondness for Tilley clothing and Tim Horton’s coffee. He was also a loving husband and father. In the hours before his passing, between joking with his nurses, perusing all available reading material, and planning for his imminent release from hospital, he also found time to Skype his wife, and quiz his daughter on cryptography and music. He was brilliant, irrepressible, and unstoppable, and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by wife Priscilla (neé Mansour) and daughter Danielle (Tremblay), and predeceased by parents Frederick and Ella (neé Mills), and sister Brenda (Broadbelt). Condolences and shared stories will be gratefully received from 2-4pm on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 at Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Rd., Ottawa, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
