Al Hamblin

August 29, 1940 — March 15, 2025

We are heartbroken to announce that in the early hours of Saturday March 15th, the amazing Al Hamblin left this earth, peacefully in his sleep. Loving father to Tara (Jon Carl) and Robin. Survived by former spouse Saxon Harding. Devoted grandfather to William and Jacqueline Godfrey. He leaves behind his sister Doreen Pollitt (the late Wayne), his niece, nephew and his extended family. Al will be especially missed by his best friend and travel companion Gayl McKinley.

Al dedicated his career to marketing where he excelled at building relationships and connecting with clients across Europe and the UK. The consummate schmoozer, Al had a unique ability to engage with people leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

In his retirement years, Al found a passion for cruising and explored numerous new and exotic destinations - even getting lost in Nassau (Bahamas) having to go to the police station asking for directions to get back to the ship. He leaves behind countless memories, stories, and a lifetime of sayings to share with future generations and the world. Life was better with him, and will not be the same without him.

"Remember the golden rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules".

We would like to thank the staff of Valley Stream Manor for their care and dedication to looking after dad in his final months, as well to the ICU staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the lovely nursing staff at Care4 who have provided excellent support to dad over the years. A special thank you to Teena Steele and Conval-Aid - I don't know what we would have done without your help. We would also like to thank Al's many friends and colleagues who have reached out with love and support. It's amazing and humbling to know how respected and admired he was.

As per Al's wishes, a cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Al's life will be held on Monday March 24th, between the hours of 1-3 pm at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, located at 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean. There will be a light buffet served - with the mandatory egg salad sandwiches - where we can gather and honour Al's memory. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute and/or the Queensway Carleton Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
