Passed away on May 22, 2015, in her 89th year,, after a courageous battle of more than two years wiith cancer. Dearly loved mother of Larry (Heather), Doug (Carolyn), and Robert (Jennifer), and most beloved grandmother of Colin, Andy, Tim, Peter, Katie, John, and Michael. Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Gordon (d. 2009). Born in the town of Justice, Manitoba, in 1926 to Mennonite immigrants from Russia, she was raised in Leamington, Ontario, the youngest of twelve children. She served as a nurse at the Sanatorium in Hamilton, where she met her future husband. The family moved to Ottawa in 1962. She was a long-time member of the Granite Curling Club and the Mississippi Golf Club and a frequent volunteer as a fundraiser for many charities. In particular, she was a dedicated volunteer for more than 35 years at the Mental Health Unit at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, where she was well-known for her compassion and kindness. Her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was central to her life and evident in all that she did.
Funeral to be held Thursday, May 28, at 10:30 AM at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Road). Visitation Tuesday, May 26, 6-8 p.m. and May 27, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those who wish may make a donation to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation.
