About Counsellor Andrea Thomas
“In my early 20’s, my best friend’s child died. I didn’t know what to say or do. But I knew I wanted to understand and learn more about walking with someone who is grieving.
Over the years, I have had extensive training in perinatal loss; suicide loss; infant, child and adolescent loss; and received my Death and Grief Studies certificate from the Centre of Loss and Transition.
Along with my own personal losses, eight years as a bereavement chaplain in a hospital birth unit and many years as a parish priest, I have journeyed with many mourning the death of a loved one. It has been an incredible honour to be with them during one of life’s most painful moments. They have taught me so much.”
Why attend a Tubman Funeral Homes seminar?
Someone you love has died. You are beginning a journey that is often frightening, painful and sometimes lonely. No words, written or spoken, can take away the pain you now feel.
Perhaps someone has already said to you “In time, you’ll feel better.” Actually, time alone has nothing to do with healing. To heal, you must be willing to learn about and understand the grief process and how it will affect you today, tomorrow and forever. As scary as this may sound, you will never “get over” your grief. Instead, you will learn to live with it.
If you allow yourself the time and compassion to mourn, if you truly work through your grief, you, too, will heal. You too will go on to find continued meaning in living and loving.
The loss of someone you love is very traumatic. In our continuing effort to be of assistance to the community, we offer this seminar. While there is opportunity for discussion and questions, you are more than welcome to just come and listen.
