Life Passages
The passing of a life is a time of emotional upheaval for Family and Friends. There can be feelings of tremendous loss, regret, and loneliness.

It is also a time for celebrating the "Life Lived", highlighting the passions, love, accomplishments and contributions of the deceased. Each person leaves a unique mark on this world as they pass through it.

Here are a few examples of funerals that we have conducted where the true nature of the "Life Lived" was an integral part of the funeral service.

The Jazz Band
Their father loved jazz and playing in a jazz band.
Upon the request of the family, we arranged to have a band set-up in the chapel to play live jazz before and during the funeral service.
The family was delighted.

The Hockey Fan
A young father died in a car accident leaving behind his wife and two boys. This gentleman was well known for his love of the game of hockey - he coached his son's team and played on a team of his own.
Many hockey players and full teams came to visit the family, resulting in a 1 hour wait time. Understanding the family and those visiting, we set-up a television in the chapel allowing those waiting to watch the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals.
The family was pleased and felt this was a suitable and thoughtful gesture.

The Irish Wake
A family, whose father was a member of the Old Thyme Fiddlers Association, invited visitors to bring their fiddles and guitars to play throughout the visitation. On the day of the service, fellow association members played spoons as the casket proceeded to the front of the chapel.

The Fire Truck
To honour a Captain of a local fire department, the family asked if a Fire Truck could be included in their father's funeral service.
The traditional hearse was replaced with a huge, red Pumper Truck. The casket was transported to the church on the truck with the family following on foot.
Fellow firemen lined the sides of Richmond Road as the Honour Guard.

The Artist
A Mother had been an avid painter all her life. Her family wanted to somehow incorporate her art into her funeral service. We arranged to have many pieces of her work displayed in the visitation room and the chapel.
In addition, all of the prints in the chapel, approximately 30 in total, were replaced with the paintings of this prolific artist. Her art became an integral part of her funeral service.

The Canoe
A father's favourite pastime was canoeing - He lived and breathed the activity.
We suggested that the family bring in their father's canoe for the visitation.
The canoe was well received by Visitors and acted as an icebreaker for family and friends.

The Harpist
A family desired a tranquil atmosphere to be created by a Harpist playing throughout the visitation.
We arranged for a Harpist that played just outside the visitation room.

Rolling Hills
Their father was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the local rolling hills. The family asked if "Rolling Hills" could be created outside the funeral home as part of an outdoor service.
Using artificial grass and beautiful daisies, we created such a hill. The casket was placed in front of the hill creating the illusions that it was sitting atop of the "Rolling Hills".
The family was impressed with this innovative and dignified solution to their request.

Scottish Dancers
A father was a life-long fan of Scottish music.
Together with the family, we arranged to have Scottish dancers lead the procession in and out of the chapel and perform a number during the service.
